If you're reading this for the first time, welcome! Here's your basic info on us and our access settings.

Who are we? )

We haven't posted art in a bit and have a few good ones, so here's an art dump! Trying a different way of hosting images, so let's see if this works.

Art incoming! )

A lot of plurals behave as though their imaginations are fundamentally separate from their plurality. There are system members, and then there are imagined characters and people that pop up in daydreams, and it's rare that we see someone say that the two mix together. Occasionally we see someone say that one of their system members used to be a daydream character or that their headspace bleeds into a paracosm, but even then the separation between daydream and headmate remains. Our own experiences lay out a much fuzzier line between the imagined and the "real" such that a sharp delineation between the two isn't correct for us. There's a gray space in-between.

On daydreams, awareness, and straddling the border. )

Alright, tech rambling ahead. Skip to the bulleted list if you don't want to hear it. No offense taken, we know not everyone cares much for computers.

Linux rambling. )

Other interesting things we've been up to. )

We got our second dose of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday, and it's hitting us like a ton of bricks, but the important thing is that we've been fully vaccinated now! We just have to wait out our body's protests.

Had to do a painting for a class and figured it was worth sharing, even if it's nothing super personal. It's just a faucet on the outside of our house.

Oh wow, is it already the 31st? Time flies.

So, remember how we mentioned switching to Linux a little while back? Yeah, that became a fixation and we're fresh off the second install of an OS that we had to install through the command line.

Y'all, we're incredibly excited right now because after working on it for 20-some hours in the last 4 days, we coded our own website from scratch. Still blown away that we've done this- we learned HTML and CSS basics, made a few assets, and then went at it in all our free time, and here we are. We put a few of the public posts from here on the site alongside content that was on our carrd and a few new things. Finally, we don't have to rely on carrd for formatting or deal with its element limits!

Spent a good while talking to plural friends about internal structure and experiences today- it was honestly needed to shake things loose and helped us communicate with each other a bit better, albeit indirectly. It also led us to make yet another diagram of ourselves to explain things since it's easier to show than tell.

New information and a new diagram. )

Came across an interesting and relatively short paper today approaching plurality from an adult learning standpoint, but not at all in the way we would have expected. It comes at it from the perspective of asking two things: is all plurality inherently a mental illness, and what might DID-focused media teach plural people about their own existence?

Not a terrible paper, though it does have problems (e.g. the savant personality myth crops up in the conclusion out of the blue). Still a very refreshing change from papers assuming that plurality is always a mental illness that needs to be cured.

Figured out part of what's been bugging us: we've trapped ourselves in another mold and need to break out of it. Again.

Visibility

We've discussed this on Twitter and possibly here, but there's an issue in many circles of the plural community regarding visibility of systems that don't fit the concept of separate, concrete people. We're sure it's not usually intended, but many circles of the plural community are disproportionately focused on the experiences of systems fitting the classical definition of multiple to the point of crowding out and speaking over other experiences.

The last few days have been a journey of rediscovering ourselves and figuring things out. We're still in the midst of it, but the biggest realizations seem to have finished and we're onto figuring out specifics and comprehending everything. This post is to sum up what's going on and publicly share it so that people not on our personal access filter get the memo.

This is very important to us. We're letting ourselves speak our truth and see who we are for the first time in years, and it feels like coming home.

I know, silly title, but this is a major realization and I have no other way to say it.

Heavy usage of metaphor incoming. There's a huge brain block between us and thinking about this directly and this is the only way we've been able to get at the truth of it. There's too much fear in the way to confront it head-on.

Starting to feel the urge to poke the brain about something, and it reminded me that it might be a good idea to clarify what exactly "poking the brain" and similar phrases mean for us.

Putting out a quick promo- [personal profile] lithophiles are hosting a second Pluralthon here to help pay bills while giving back to the community. They're taking prompts related to plurality, and they (along with the Rhymers and Ange System) will be creating from those prompts, then posting when they're sponsored.

Go check it out and participate if you can! You can also donate to help them out here.

Ever since we ran into LB Lee's psychological badness scale, we've wanted to make our own because it seemed like a very good idea. We made a version of it a few months ago and it's served us well, but recent events have given us more information and we revised it to more accurately reflect what happens when our brain hits the panic button. At least something good came out of the emotional mess we've been for the last few days (more on that is on higher access levels if you're not informed- we'd prefer to limit access to that information for safety reasons).

So here it is, our personal crisis scale (though not everything on it is a crisis). Hopefully seeing it helps other people like LB's helped us.

Content warning for mentions of suicide and self-harm. )

Being Open

Just joined a petsite called Tattered World, and we're going to try something we haven't done before outside of plural circles. We're going to be openly plural from the get-go and see how things go; I'm expecting to have to do at least some explaining plurality, but we've heard good things about the site's social climate. It also shouldn't be too damaging if things go horribly, which is why I'm willing to give this a shot in the first place.

I'm hopeful, though- here's to being openly us. It'll be nice to not have to hide ourselves somewhere outside of plural circles. Could also help us work through past trauma regarding bad reception to coming out as plural (good god, some people out there are awful) by giving a good experience with this.
